PJT Newport & Carers Association Limerick Local Art Competition - "What Caring means to me"
Young children in Limerick enjoyed the challenge of winning an xbox 360 as part of a local campaign by the Carers Association which was sponsored by PJT Insurance Services Newport.
On the judging panel were Mary McSweeney from PJT Insurance Services and Lisa Kearney of eNova Marketing & Software, together with Steffani McDonagh from the Carers Association Limerick.
Three participating schools entered the competition which was launched in early June. The winner Catriona McNamara from Limerick School Project was announced on Thursday June 25th, she was presented with the trophy prize an xbox 360 at her School surrounded by her classmates.
Catriona`s work a cityscape of a girl who cares for an elderly woman, by doing her shopping, spending time with her, really captured the brief "What caring means to me" Other schools that took part included Gaelscoil on Bridge Street and Model School on O`Connell Avenue.
During Carers week which began on June 8th, Steffani McDonagh of the Carers Limerick went to three Schools and talked to the children about young Carers and issues concerning all Carers. Steffani described a young Carer as a child who helps with the care of his or her siblings, parents, grandparents or neighbours, who takes on a greater responsibility for their wellbeing than is normal.
The flood of artworks from the city`s primary schools really impressed the judging panel but Catriona secured the top prize. PJT are hoping that the Limerick Community will nominate a Carer in their area or household, this whole initiative was to draw attention to the great work of the Carers Association and that there are young Carers in every Community.
